Bishop Knighten is the youngest of eight children born to Louis and Willie Knighten. In 1959, he married Ollie Carey with whom they have six children together. He left the south and moved to Chicago, IL where he lived for some 10 years. Bishop always knew the hand of God was upon him but he chose to run from the calling. It was in Chicago Bishop Knighten gave his heart to the Lord and was filled with the Holy Ghost. There he submitted to the leadership of Pastor Lillian Pickens. It was under her leadership he was exposed to foreign missions and the sacrifice required to work in ministry overseas. The dye was cast, the seed was sown, and he was moved of God to take the gospel everywhere.
Bishop was led of God to leave Chicago and return to Mississippi in 1972. He would conduct revivals, tent meetings and street meetings all over the state. Many great and notable miracles were experienced by those that attended these meetings. Finally, in December of 1977 he started Trinity House of Prayer. The Bishop’s hunger to take the gospel to the world led him on numerous mission trips to Mexico, South Africa, Germany and many other places.
He has launched a number of other ministries and churches. He is the founder of the Men’s Survival Club(a gathering of entrepreneurs, business owners). He currently oversees churches in Mississippi and California.
